Compare by household and location
Use the exact property and area where possible. A rural home with an inefficient heating system can have a very different profile from an insulated apartment. Vehicle dependence, medical cover and repairs can also change the budget materially.
Costs easily overlooked
- Initial travel and removal costs, which are separate from monthly expenditure.
- Purchasing expenses, legal fees, surveys and renovation budgets.
- Heating in the cold season and cooling in summer, based on the actual building.
- Unexpected repairs and maintenance of roofs, plumbing or septic arrangements.
- Cross-border banking costs, insurance and professional tax advice where relevant.
